Civil rights advocates are calling for President Biden to pardon former Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who is currently on house arrest after convictions in federal cases earlier this year.
Following Biden’s Sunday decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, after repeatedly saying he would not do so, attorney Ben Crump and political strategist Angela Rye said the president must remember “justice is still not served for so many in this country.”
“There are thousands of people who have been wrongfully convicted and sit in federal prisons today. While Hunter Biden was selectively prosecuted, he’s not the only one,” the two said in a statement on Monday.

They pointed to Mosby, who was convicted of mortgage fraud and perjury earlier this year. She is currently serving a year of home confinement, followed by two years’ supervised release.
She is appealing the case, but the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland called for her law license to be suspended. The Maryland Supreme Court has denied the request as the appeals case continues.
A lead prosecutor in Mosby’s case, Leo Wise, was also a prosecutor in the Hunter Biden case.
Mosby drew the support of multiple civil rights leaders, including the Rev. Al Sharpton, the NAACP and even members of the Congressional Black Caucus during her legal troubles.
Prior to her sentencing, the groups had urged Biden to issue a presidential pardon, claiming she was wrongfully targeted by the Trump administration for her racial justice policies.
Crump and Rye also highlighted Kim Gardner, a former St. Louis circuit attorney who took a plea deal after the Mississippi Supreme Court ruled she had violated several ethics rules in the prosecution of former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens.
“Marilyn Mosby is on house arrest right now with her law license hanging in the balance over purchasing property with her own money. Kim Gardner was forced into taking a plea deal for a $5000 expense that was approved in an ethics opinion,” Crump and Rye said. “We welcome a conversation with President Biden to discuss ways to use his pardon power to free those 'others' who deserve justice also.”
Biden unexpectedly pardoned his son just days before the 54-year-old was to be sentenced for his federal convictions on felony charges of the purchase and possession of a gun in 2018 and on nine federal tax charges.
