Bannon on Musk, Zuckerberg: 'We'll break these guys eventually'
Former Trump adviser and right-wing firebrand Steve Bannon issued a blistering attack on tech moguls Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg during an interview with NPR ahead of President Trump's inauguration on Monday.
Saying there is a "fundamental chasm," between the wealthy billionaires who have aligned themselves with Trump and the "MAGA movement," Bannon suggested Musk specifically is not be trusted.
"He dissed the MAGA movement as being racist, which is the old trope that the left. He used all the left tropes to come after us," Bannon said. "These oligarchs in Silicon Valley, they have a very different view of how people should govern themselves. I call it techno-feudalism. They don't believe in the underlying tenets of self-governance."
Bannon said leaders like Musk can be influenced ideologically over time.
"So we will break all these guys eventually," he said. "They are broken right now."
Bannon has regularly criticized Republican lawmakers, conservative media executives and others on the right who he views as insufficiently loyal to Trump and his agenda.
As the host of his popular "War Room" podcast and streaming show, Bannon has previously telegraphed an intention to turn Musk specifically "from a techno-feudalist to a populist nationalist."
Both Musk and Zuckerberg plan to attend Trump's inauguration on Monday, and attended parties in Washington over the weekend. Musk spoke briefly during Trump's victory rally in Capitol One Arena on Sunday.
