Apple planning to invest $500B in US, hire 20K people

Apple announced Monday that it plans to spend more than $500 billion in the United States and hire more than 20,000 people over the next several years.
The tech behemoth said the investments will focus on “artificial intelligence, silicon engineering, and skills development for students and workers across the country.”
“We are bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement.
The investment will include a new manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas that will produce servers for Apple Intelligence and the systems that help users “write, express themselves, and get things done.”
Apple said it also plans to expand its data centers in North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Arizona and Nevada.
The company said most new hires will be in its “Research and Development” department, silicon engineering, software development and artificial intelligence production.
President Trump celebrated the news in a post online, saying the company was doubling down on its American commitment because of his efforts.
“APPLE HAS JUST ANNOUNCED A RECORD 500 BILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THE REASON, FAITH IN WHAT WE ARE DOING, WITHOUT WHICH, THEY WOULDN’T BE INVESTING TEN CENTS,” he posted. “THANK YOU TIM COOK AND APPLE!!!”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted about the news and noted that the company's announcement comes just days after the Apple CEO met with Trump in the Oval Office.
