Air ambulance jet with 6 people crashes in Philadelphia
An air ambulance plane crashed in Northeast Philadelphia with six people on board Friday.
The Learjet 55 plane crashed around 6:30 p.m. local time after taking off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It was headed to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.
The plane, according to a statement from JetRescue obtained by Nexstar, was carrying four crew members and two passengers, including a pediatric patient.
"At this time, we cannot confirm any survivors. No names are being released at this time until family members have been notified," JetRescue said in a press release.
In a Friday night Truth Social post, President Trump said his administration is "totally engaged" following the crash.
"So sad to see the plane go down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More innocent souls lost," he wrote. "Our people are totally engaged. First Responders are already being given credit for doing a great job. More to follow. God Bless you all."
A National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) spokesperson told The Hill it is responding to the crash. Both the FAA and NTSB will investigate the Friday incident. The NTSB will lead the probe.
Pennsylvania Sens. John Fetterman (D) and Dave McCormick (R) said they were both in touch with officials about the crash.
Philadelphia's Office of Emergency Management said local officials were responding to a "major incident" near Roosevelt Mall in the city, instructing the public to avoid the area.
“I’ve spoken with @PhillyMayor and my team is in communication with @PhillyPD, @PhilaOEM, and @PhillyFireDept,” Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) wrote on the social media platform X shortly after the crash. “We are offering all Commonwealth resources as they respond to the small private plane crash in Northeast Philly”
The crash comes as the country is still reeling from a midair plane collision that killed dozens late Wednesday evening in Washington. The NTSB is also investigating this crash.
The Hill reached out to the Philadelphia Police Department for comment.
